A 24-hour field kit is easy to misunderstand. It is not a miniature bunker and it is not a social media flat lay built around dramatic tools. It is a compact system that helps a person remain safe, warm, hydrated, oriented and able to communicate through one planned day plus an unexpected delay.

The right 24 hour field kit depends on location, season, route, team and activity. A winter kit for northern Europe cannot be copied from a summer desert list. The useful method is to pack by function, identify single points of failure and remove equipment that does not solve a realistic problem.

Define what “24 hours” means
